Red Roots Trading Company Expands to Kahnawake: A Brand-New Tobacco & Nicotine Super Store Coming April 2026

Big news, friends. The Red Roots Trading Company family is growing again, and this time we’re planting our flag just outside Montréal in the proud Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake, Québec.

That’s right. Red Roots Trading Co. is opening a brand-new brick-and-mortar super store dedicated entirely to tobacco and nicotine products, and the doors are set to open next month, sometime soon in April 2026.

For longtime Red Roots customers across Ottawa, Gatineau, and beyond who have come to know us as Canada’s favourite online Indigenous trading post, this is a huge step forward in our journey. Back to physical retail locations. As usual, an absolutely massive selection. And a new partnership built on mutual respect between Indigenous communities.

And yes… we’re excited. Very excited.

Red Roots Trading Company is proudly Algonquin-owned and operated, and our expansion into Kahnawake comes with deep respect for Mohawk culture, values, and community leadership.

Customers familiar with Red Roots know that cannabis products are a big part of our online menu. But at our new Kahnawake location, you will NOT find cannabis products.

Why?

Because the Mohawk Nation in Kahnawake has taken a clear stance regarding cannabis and alcohol, viewing them as substances that alter the mind and behaviour. Community leaders have expressed that these “mind-changing” substances do not align with the Mohawk cultural and spiritual perspectives.

At Red Roots, we respect that completely.

Our new Kahnawake location is designed specifically around tobacco and nicotine products, which have a long and meaningful cultural history within Indigenous communities across Turtle Island.

The result? A store concept that stays true to both Red Roots’ reputation for incredible selection AND the values of the Mohawk community hosting us.
